First Regional Conference Held in Asheville

Sixty-Six years of "Service to All Mankind"

Furnished a private room at Memorial Mission Hospital before integration (1954)

Assisted as professionals in a Sickle Cell Screening Program

Served as researchers in a three-year survey for the American Cancer Society

Sponsored a Health Fair on available community services

Established a Van Fund for a former Teen Pageant Contestant who was paralyzed

Sent Christmas gifts to Tuskegee, Alabama, for Veteran’s families

Awarded more than 60 scholarships to high school graduates

Sponsored a Saturday reading program at the Livingston Street School

Provided tutorial services to junior and senior high school students

Sponsored “Picking up Study Skills,” “Career Happenings,” “How to Become a Millionaire,” and “Beyond Black and Beautiful”

Sponsored “Fashionetta,” Hamilton-Vogue Esquire Models of Chicago, Arts Festival, and Miss Versatile Teen Pageants

Hosted guest models, Sara Lou Harris and Rose Meta Morgan, owner of Rose Meta Morgan House of Beauty in Harlem, a former Miss North Carolina (1983), and second wife of Joe Louis

Sponsored Brenda Armstrong, Miss Versatile Teen in the Miss Black Teenage World Pageant in Goldsboro, NC

Sponsored Channelle Christopher, national Winner of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Domestic Tour Essay Contest

Chartered Kappa Alpha at Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, NC

Hosted four Regional conferences and hosted the 13th Mid-Atlantic Leadership Conference with Kappa Alpha Chapter at Western Carolina University

Presented 12 Distinguished Service Awards, the chapter’s highest honor given for exemplary community service and achievement

First African-American Greek letter organization to purchase a NAACP life membership and is currently purchasing a $1,000 Golden Heritage Membership through the Asheville branch

Sponsored the first bi-annual Beautillion in 1992 for young African-American males ages 14 to19.  The Beautillion introduces the young men to the Asheville community, recognizing their accomplishments and aspirations.  The eighth Beautillion was held in 2005.
