Beautillion

May 1993 began several months of planning for the first Beautillion presented by Gamma Gamma Omega.  Soror Diana Wilson felt that much attention was given to African-American young ladies, while little or no attention was given to African-American males.  Her idea of a Beautillion was immediately accepted by the Chapter.

The first annual Beautillion was presented at the Lipinsky Auditorium, University of North Carolina at Asheville, on November 20,1993, with the theme "Step Into Our World."

The Chapter perceived these Beaux as young men having potential to become outstanding, contributing citizens.  Educational sessions with male presenters were planned and implemented.  Topics included educational achievement, leadership skills, male/female relationships, sexually transmitted diseases, character building, dressing for success, self determination, and community service.  These sessions were designed to help the Beaux follow a path that would lead to a real measure of success.  These sessions remain a vital component of the Beaux orientation.

The 1993 Beaux were Leshon Corpening; Philip Darity; Preston Ervin; Jasminus Grandy, V; Issac Grant; Kendall Johnson; Devin McAdams; Shaun Montgomery; Bernard Stewart; and Micheal White.  Mr. Beautillion 1993 was Beaux Jasminus Grandy, V.
