 Local Initiatives

Saturday School

In partnership with the Asheville Chapter of the Links, Inc.,  sorors of Gamma Gamma Omega tutor young students (grade 3rd-5th) at Isaac Dickson Elementary every Saturday from 10 a.m. - 12 noon, during the school year.  Students receive help with math and reading.

Holiday Gifts for a Needy Family

Annually, Gamma Gamma Omega identifies a family that is in need, through a local hospital discharge planner program.  Gift certificates for essentials and food are purchased from various stores and given to the family before the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.  The Chapter also helps with the family's utility bill.

Breast Cancer Awareness Tea

Gamma Gamma Omega sponsors a "Breast Cancer Awareness Tea," in partnership with Mission-St. Joseph's Hospital.  The tea fosters awareness and education of breast cancer.  The program includes musical selections, history of the pink ribbon, testimonies from breast cancer survivors, and on-site mammograms.

Candidate Forum

In partnership with the Asheville branch of the NAACP and the YMI Cultural Center, Gamma Gamma Omega sponsors a candidate forum for city, county, state and federal candiates to present their prospective platforms and answer questions from the public on how they would better serve the Asheville-Buncombe County area.  The purpose of the forum is to highlight the candiates' background and discuss issues affecting the Asheville-Buncombe County area.
